The idea for this scene came because of a party that was being held at a line camp on the Four Sixes near Guthrie, Texas. One of the cowboys from the neighboring Pitchfork Ranch got himself all duded up and rode over to take part in the welcoming.
"I spoke with some older cowboys who said when they were young they would occasionally go courting horseback. This is common in ranch country."
