"Calf busting, or wrestling calves to the ground so they can be branded, cut, and doctored, is strenuous work. My model for this painting was Buster McLaury, a young hand who grew up on the Four Sixes, and later became foreman on the great Goodnight Ranch as a very young man, just 30 or so."
Calf Buster was shown in the Cowboy Artists of America exhibit in 1983 and was awarded the gold medal in the drawing category.
